Merton Community Transport was formally established as a charity and company limited by guarantee in 1998 through funding from the National Lottery Charities Board and Bridge House Estates Trust Fund.

We believe that any group or individual can benefit from having access to transport.  At the same time, the cost of vehicle purchase and the responsibility for their maintenance and safety make ownership of a minibus impractical for most groups. MCT is therefore a practical alternative to owning your own vehicle.  We also offer a Vehicle Management Service for groups who own their own vehicle. MCT can assist groups who already own a minibus with all aspects of the necessary legal requirements regarding regular maintenance and inspections and advice in respect of any changes in the law or local requirements such as low emission zones.

MCT run a fleet of accessible minibuses as well as fully accessible Multi Purpose Vehicles, and these are available to groups or individuals who affiliate to either our group scheme or Individual Transport Service.

We can provide a fully trained (MiDAS) and DBS checked driver, or groups can use their own as long as they have successfully completed the nationally recognised Minibus Drivers Awareness course (MiDAS). MCT also run training courses so that people can gain their MiDAS certificate and/or the Passenger Assistant Training Scheme (PATS) certificate.
